For the last couple of week’s we watched the Scotty cheated on Kevin drama unfold on Brothers and Sisters. Last night, Kevin and Scotty resolved their issues and recommitted to one another. Even though we are happy that Scotty and Kevin reunited, we were disappointed by the ending of this plot line. After a huge build up for this story we found ourselves let down by the ending.
The Scotty cheated on Kevin story line was brought up and resolved in three episodes. Just in case you blinked and missed it here is a quick recap for the Scotty cheated on Kevin plot line on Brothers and Sisters:
- Episode 1: To be fair it was not even a full episode but the last couple of minutes of an episode. Nevertheless, Kevin learns that Scotty cheated.
- Episode 2: Kevin and Scotty fight. We learn who Scotty cheated with along with other details about the affair. Kevin meets the man Scotty cheated with, Justin punches the cheater. Kevin relocates to Kitty’s place and reveals that he blew off Scotty’s restaurant opening to drink at a bar.
- Episode 3: Scotty reveals it’s been three weeks since he and Kevin had a serious conversation about their relationship. Kevin and Scotty fight, Scotty admits that he felt abandoned by his husband on the opening night of his restaurant, Kevin admits that he has been selfish. By the end of the episode Kevin and Scotty are back together. Kevin tells Scotty he loves him.
It is hard to overcome infidelity but Kevin and Justin managed to do just that and did it in record time.

When we learned that Scotty cheated on Kevin we developed expectations about how this plot would unfold. We expected to witness meaningful conversations between Kevin and Scotty about the issues. We expected to see an in depth discussion about the impact of Scotty’s infidelity. We expected to see the couple recommit to one another, deal with the fact that Scotty cheated and resolve their issues as a couple.
While the show met all of our expectations it did so in an unsatisfactory way. Now that the Scotty cheated on Kevin drama is over the plot seemed shallow. We never got beyond the surface with this story. The plot never lived up to its potential and we ended up feeling disappointed by the episode and the series.
The Scotty cheated on Kevin plot developed too quickly and as a result the resolution did not feel realistic. It seems like the writers on Brothers and Sisters got bored with this story shortly after writing it. It’s obvious that the writers never really committed to the Kevin cheating on Scotty story. Instead of letting the story develop naturally, the writers decided to go with an “and they lived happily ever after” ending that was safe and boring.
If the writers were going to explore this issue we think they should have truly explored it. Now we are left with the feeling that this entire story was contrived by the writers to get people interested in the show again. It seems like the writers were writing for the ratings rather than for the fans.

Now that this Scotty is cheating on Kevin story is over, we are not sure if there is a reason to continue to tune into the series. We will probably tune in next week to see if there any residual Scotty and Kevin issues or to see if there is Walker family drama to entice us but we are already starting to move this show down on our priority list. We will give Brothers and Sisters a couple more chances but we think it may be time to pack it in and call it a day with this series.
