We are two months in to the fall line up and we are finally ready to finalize our television schedule. Here is our definitive list for November of shows to play, shows to pass on and the trash reality shows for Tuesday night. Check back next week to see what “possible plays” make it onto our playlist and see the trash reality shows we are watching for the night.
Of Note: No Ordinary Family, Detroit 1-8-7, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Parenthood, Glee, Raising Hope, and Running Wilde are on hiatus this week due to the midterm elections.
TV Shows to Watch:
For those of you who have a tight schedule, here are our favorite new, returning and trash reality tv shows on Tuesday night.
New TV Show to Watch: Raising Hope
The premise for Raising Hope, a 23-year-old must raise his infant daughter, which he conceived during a one-night stand with a serial killer, after her mother is executed, did not entice us initially and we were sure we would have this show on our past list. We’re glad we gave this series a shot. Raising Hope happens to be as hilarious as it is endearing. It is one of the most authentic and genuine family comedy series on television this fall. A definite must watch.
Returning TV Series to Watch: Glee
Glee continued to capture our attention this year. Glee has compelling plot lines, strong 3-dimensional characters and great musical numbers. The show seems to only get better as they begin to feature some of the supporting characters from last season in bigger roles, such as Mike Chang and everyone’s favorite Cheerio Brittany. We also witnessed the addition of a new gleek, Sam, a new love interest for Emma, Paul, played by the incredible John Stamos, and a new football coach, Shannon Beiste. This season has also featured some great guest appearances. So far Britney Spears and Cherice have stopped by the set and Emmy nominee Mike O’Malley returned to revive his role as Kurt’s father. The show is definitely not facing a sophomore slump and continues to be one of the best shows on television.
Trash- Reality TV Series to Watch:
yle="font-size: medium;">16 and Pregnant
What can we say. 16 and Pregnant is the definition of trash reality tv. Whether it be fighting between a teenage mom and her worthless baby daddy or fights between Mom and teenage mom-to-be about whether to stay home and raise a newborn or go out and party with friends, the show never disappoints and almost always brings the drama. We wouldn’t miss this reality tv drama even if someone paid us.
Permanent Playlist: Our TV shows to watch runner-ups, watch live or catch up online.
In addition to our TV Shows to Watch there is one other show that makes it on our permanent playlist for Tuesday night.
Detroit 1-8-7: The gritty cop drama is one part NYPD Blue, one part Homicide and one part genius. Michael Imperioli proves he has staying power as an actor in his role as Det. Louis Fith and the remainder of the cast rises to his level working together in perfect harmony to bring one of the best new tv series of the fall to life. A must watch.
Possible Plays: The Floaters
Sometimes these series make it on to our playlist, other times we can do without them.
No Ordinary Family: The superhero drama rarely fails to disappoint. We love watching the Powell family struggle with their new powers and try to become heroes in a world that needs saving.
The Biggest Loser: We wish NBC would take a lesson from Gillian and Bob and reduce the portion control on this show. We love The Biggest Loser, we are a sucker for the tears intermingled with inspirational yet heartbreaking stories, but we don’t love it enough to commit 2 hours to it every Tuesday. As a result the series becomes our sometimes meal for Tuesday night.
In Treatment: Sometimes we love watching the shrink and his patients, other times we are just not feeling it. Depends on our mood and the patient being featured that week.
NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles: We love these investigative dramas but we don’t love them enough to watch them every week, especially now that we have Detroit 1-8-7. Sometimes we sneak a quick peek to see LL Cool J on NCIS: Los Angeles, but sometimes we hit the pass button.
The Good Wife and Parenthood: We never know how to play this choice. We can only watch one of these series live since Detroit 1-8-7 is in the same time slot. On some Tuesdays we go for the witty yet incredibly touching Bravermans on Parenthood and other times we are in the mood for a good the love triangle and want to watch Alicia choose between Peter and Will on The Good Wife. Both are good choices and both always satisfy.
Permanent Pass:
Running Wilde: Just because Arrested Development was funny doesn’t mean this show is funny as well. Running Wilde will continue to be a stain on Will Arnett’s biography until Fox puts this show out of its misery and pulls the plug. Seriously, how this show survived this long is beyond us.
One Tree Hill: Continuing in our discussion of shows that never die, how has One Tree Hill managed to continue on this long? The teenage drama has passed it’s prime and needs to be put out to pasture. One Tree Hill is quickly becoming that old guy at the frat party that no one wants to kick out because he is already so pathetic.
Life Unexpected: Watch it while you still can… th
at is if you want to, we sure don’t. Life Unexpected has yet to receive word of it’s status from the CW. However, the ratings and lack of renewal notice seems to suggest this show is done for and won’t make it past the fall season.
Trash:
Millionaire Matchmaker: We love Patti’s give it to them straight attitude and spunky personality. We love watching her adventures in love and recommend this show for anyone looking to have a good laugh on Tuesday night.
Occasional Trash:
Running Russell Simmons (waiting for the season premiere and a couple episodes before we make a final determination on this show).
