As we mentioned in our earlier post, Monday: November’s Play, Pass and Trash, there are only two reasons that we tune into to 90210. One, to see Naomi confront her rapist, Mr. Cannon. Two, to see where the Teddy’s gay plot line ends up. Both plots played a big role in this week’s episode and yet at the end of the episode we felt disappointed.
This week’s episode of 90210 was dry despite having juicy and socially relevant plot lines. We never quite connected with Teddy or Naomi’s story even though we were drawn to watch the show because of these characters and the issues they are currently facing. 90210 dealt with both of these story lines in such uninteresting way during this episode. By the end of the episode we began to wonder if we should give up on this series and move it to our permanent pass list.
Naomi Presses Charges against Mr. Cannon:
During last week’s episode, Mr. Matthews’ learned about the rape and came forward with information that could help bolster Naomi’s case. Mr. Matthews told the police that he saw Naomi and Mr. Cannon in the classroom on the night Naomi was raped. He said he saw Mr. Cannon close the blinds and thought it was odd but did not put two and two together until he heard Naomi’s rape allegations.
Mr. Matthews’ information bolstered Naomi’s case but the cop in charge of her case told her it did not make it air-tight. Naomi was still hesitant to move forward but Mr. Matthews told her that it was a fight worth fighting for and urged her to take on the case. Naomi was encouraged by Mr. Matthew’s words and by her friends, who came down to the precinct to support her, and decided to press charges.
Naomi and Mr. Cannon face off:
Of course, Mr. Cannon did not take well to being charged with rape. He told Naomi she had no evidence, would not win the case and threatened Naomi with a defamation suit.
class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Mr. Cannon was suspended and on the way out he ran into Oscar, a fellow brit. Oscar heard Mr. Cannon’s accent and realized he was not from Chelsea like he claimed but from Dagenham. This tidbit of information came in handy for Naomi. In the course of hitting on Naomi, Oscar let this information come out. Naomi realized that Mr. Cannon was trying to hide something and asked Oscar to help her figure it out.

Naomi’s rapist, Mr. Cannon, is a serial rapist:
Naomi and Oscar decided to search the internet to see what Mr. Cannon was hiding. In one of the worse product placements of all time Naomi and Oscar used Bing.com to discover the truth. After multiple searches (we bet google could have done it in one), Oscar and Naomi learned the truth.
Naomi and Oscar discovered that Mr. Cannon was wanted for sexually assaults in Dagenham and that his real name is Mr. Douglas Atherton. Naomi and Oscar took the information to the police. The police got an extradition order but it was too late, Mr. Cannon had already fled.
Silver and Ade told Naomi she should be happy he was gone and it was over and while Naomi took solace in that fact, we knew better. We expect to see Mr. Cannon returned at any point this season and fully expect him to seek revenge on Naomi.
Final Thoughts on the Naomi and Mr. Cannon Plot:
The reason this plot did not work for us this week was that there was no real meat in the storyline during the episode.
We fully expected for Mr. Cannon to flip out when he was charged with rape and try to publicly embarrass Naomi, but that didn’t happen. He settled for the creepy threatening whisper approach.
We expected a long yet juicy trial to ensue but it is clear that Mr. Cannon will not be facing a jury anytime soon and even when he does get caught he will end up being extradited to England.
The drama we did get was boring. When Oscar learned that Mr. Cannon was not from Chelsea we expected that he and Naomi would break into the school’s private records or a database or even Mr. Cannon’s house to learn the truth. Instead the kids took the safe and responsible route and used bing. Bing solved the puzzle and that was the end of it.

Even Mr. Cannon’s flee away from justice was not enticing. Mr. Cannon just left. No police chase, no hostage situation, no creepy note to Naomi saying, “I’ll always remember our special times.” Nothing.
Sure Mr. Cannon’s escape will give us some amazing story lines in the future if he returns to seek revenge on Naomi like we predict he will but that is not enough for us. We need instant gratification. We expected a big pay off for this story line. Mr. Cannon is a monster and we expected him to get a big kick in the butt from karma. Instead we got nothing and we are not happy.
Teddy still trapped in the closet :
Listen, we understand that it is going to take a while for Teddy to accept his homosexuality but come on now this Teddy is gay storyline is moving slower than molasses. We tuned in to see Teddy continue to struggle with his homosexuality during last night’s episode and all we got were a couple of lines between Teddy and Ian and one longing glance.
Teddy and Ian, the guy that Teddy hooked up with earlier this season, had to face one another during “The Undies,” West Bev.’s underachievement awards. Ian was MCing the event and Teddy was an attendee.
The only Teddy and Ian interaction we got all night was a brief discussion when Dixon left the two alone where Ian told Teddy he did not want to make him uncomfortable. That was it.
Nothing else happened. Teddy did give Ian one longing glance during the episode and then felt a need to self-medicate by smoking some pot but that was all the writers wrote on this one.
Teddy did not make any progress on his sexuality and there was no significant discussion during this week’s episode on the matter. At this rate we are going to have to wait until 90210 comes back for a third revival before Teddy comes out and we are not sure we are willing to wait that long.
Final thoughts on the Teddy and Ian relationship and Teddy’s gay plot:
Can we just say for the record that Ian is a cutie. Teddy would be lucky to date a guy like him. We would love to see the two confront Teddy’s sexuality issues as a team and later maybe as a couple. But 90210 seems content with dragging this plot on forever and not making any ground on it. We haven’t even seen Teddy and Ian kiss yet and that is really unacceptable.

90210 does not seem to be as invested in Teddy and Ian as we are. If they want to keep us interested, they better change that.
90210 seriously disappointed us this week. We thought the Naomi and Mr. Cannon storyline would have a big payoff and Mr. Cannon would get his just due, but he didn’t. We also thought that we would see Teddy and Ian make some sort of progess on Teddy’s sexuality but it didn’t. Naomi and Teddy’s story drew us in this week but after getting let down by where their stories ended up this week, we are not sure if we will be returning next week.
What did you think? Was that the last we saw of Mr. Cannon? Do you think Naomi can start the recovery process knowing her rapist is still out there? Will Teddy ever come out? Are Teddy and Ian meant to be? Comment below.
