Clare and Eli:
Clare and Eli, who started dating during Degrassi: The Boiling Point, went on their first date during last week’s episode. The couple also got matching piercings. It was clear that Clare’s motivation for the piercing was to anger her parents who have been ignoring her and having serious marital issues.
This week Clare continued to be rebellious towards her parents. She encouraged Eli to come over for dinner to meet her parents during this week’s episode. At the dinner Clare brought up all things about Eli that she knew her parents would hate. Eli was clearly uncomfortable with Clare’s plan to use him to piss of her parents but did not say anything to her at dinner.
The next day Clare showed up to school in a goth/punk outfit, which was a clear violation of the dress code and Eli flipped out on her. Eli told her that he did not want to be “a pawn” in her “parental showdown.” Eli also criticized her for rebelling just so she could piss her parents off.
Clare told Eli that her plan was to keep her parents angry at her so they would not get divorced. She believed that if they were angry at her they would forget that they were angry at each other and they would stay together. Eli told her that in the course of trying to save her parent’s relationship she had hurt theirs and left her in the middle of the hallway with her punk/goth outfit. When Clare returned home from school her parents announced they were getting a divorce. Clare begged them to stay together, promising that she would be good from now on, but her parents told her that they made a final decision to separate and it was not her fault.
The preview for next week indicates that the episode will feature Clare dealing with her parent’s divorce. She does not seem to be coping well with the news. Eli is also featured in the preview trying to support Clare as she struggles with her family issues. Tune into next week’s episode of Degrassi to watch what happens with Eli and Clare.
Chantay’s Post It Revolution
Last week Principal Simpson announced that he was cutting Power Squad and Chantay tried to fight to save it. This week
Chantay’s fight to save Power Squad continued.
During last week’s episode Chantay put up a post it note in the bathroom that she wrote which said “Degrassi sucks.” This week Chantay returned to the bathroom to find that other students had put up post it notes voicing the same sentiment and complaining that their after school club had been cut as a result of Principal Simpson’s post-”Night in Las Vegas” dance reforms (read about what happened at the “Night in Las Vegas” dance here).
Chantay called a meeting with all the unhappy students and they all agreed that they needed to fight to get their clubs back. Chantay said that the students needed to make their voices heard. The next day Principal Simpson discovered that his car had been covered in Post It notes written by disgruntled students who wanted their clubs back. It was a pretty clever move and we were quite impressed with how far Chantay was willing to go to get her club back.
After a tough round of negotiation Chantay convinced Mr. Simpson to reinstate the clubs. In the end Chantay met her goal to save Power Squad. The cheerleading squad and the rest of the clubs at Degrassi were saved as a result of her efforts.
This week’s episode of Degrassi had a lot of drama and as a result we really enjoyed the episode. We will tune in next week to see if Sav learns the truth about Holly J., discover what happens when Eli tries to help Clare cope with her parent’s divorce and possibly see the return of Power Squad. The preview also indicates that Adam and Fiona may start dating next week. We will be interested to see how that plot develops.
