Premise: Keeping Up with the Kardashians meets Miami Social
Last night we finally identified the element of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami that makes it so compelling. It’s not Kourtney and Khloe’s relationship where they are fighting one moment and fiercly supporting one another the next. It’s not Khloe’s quirky and witty comments. It’s definately not the Dash Dolls. It’s the fact Kourtney and Khloe, who have everything, money, power, fame, are still relatable.
For the last couple of weeks we have seen Kourtney’s relationship with Scott continue to decline. We have seen Scott’s manipulation and violent behavior toward Kourtney. We have watched Scott face his growing issues with alcoholism and abuse. We have seen Kourtney through it all, wrestling with the feelings of wanting Scott but also wanting a better life for herself and her son.
We have seen Kourtney/Scott relationship all unfold. Despite the fact that we are worlds apart from Kourtney, money and celebrity wise, we can relate with her. We’ve all either been there or seen it happen to some one we love, the make up to break up relationship that was should have been over a long time ago but seems to go on into a dead spiral of doom and destruction that lasts an eternity. We’ve all seen good girls be sucked in by men who seem destined to appear on Tool Academy. Questioning their motives or desires are futile because after watching scores of romantic comedies these girls believe that if they just stick around the men will change and become the dream husband and father. So as much as we hate to watch it, we can feel and understand why Kourtney continues to be sucked in by Scott.
It’s that ability to relate to Kourtney’s plight coupled with a burning desire to see Koutney finally make the right decision and realize she is better than Scott and her entire family is right about him that drives us to the television every Sunday for Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Watching Kourtney is like watching your best friend in the same situation, you just want to shake her and hope that jars her brain enough to make the right decision. Like your best friend you are tired of hearing about all the drama with her and her man but for some reason find yourself asking about him just so you can have an excuse to tell her how much he sucks. Just like your best friend on a day to day basis you get false hope episode after episode that Kourtney may leave Scott this time, but then you realize you are as delusional as the girl who got sucked to the manipulative web in the first place.
Just like Kourtney cannot move on from Scott, we cannot move on from their relationship drama… unfortunately, we have to because the season is over… or wait, do we? Fortunately, E! realizes we have an addiction to Kardashian’s drama and will be letting this Scott/Kourtney drama unfold on Keeping up the Kardashian. We will be watching next week to see what Kourtney is up too next week (and to see Khloe’s crazy antics because it’s not as fun to watch without those).
