Premise: CSI meets Stabler and Olivia (SVU)

We have to admit, sometimes we look forward to reruns of our favorites show more than watching episode premieres during primetime. Is there anything more satisfying than coming home to discover that reruns of your favorite show are running back to back on network cable? Sometimes you want something new, but other times there is nothing more satisfying than watching reruns of new modern classics. The best part is when you didn’t even realize you missed an episode and see that episode for the first time. It those “it’s new to you” moments that we live for.
One of our favorite things to watch on tv is Bones. The thing about Bones is that it was one of those shows that flew under the radar for a a very long time and slowly developed a cult following. Eventually there was a point where Bones blew up and became popular. By that point, many people missed the beginning of the series and a lot of the episodes. TNT allows those people to catch up with this wonderful series, showing two episodes every weekday. This also lets the devoted fans an opportunity to rewatch some of their favorite episodes.
The thing about this show that we love the most is there is something for everyone and as a result this show has a variety of fans. There are people who watch for Booth (because we’ve had a crush on him since Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Others enjoy the scientific talk—as if it makes them smarter just by watching. Additionally, some people watch because they like crime shows and murder mysteries, while some people watch for the anticipated love story between Booth and Bones.
Despite all these things that attract us to the show, there are some reasons why some might not watch. We do realize the speech and lack of social skills are very annoying and can ruin a good murder mystery. In Bones’ defense, since there are so many crime-solving TV shows, they have to have an original angle. Every show talks about DNA and follows the lead law enforcement officers around while the officers question witnesses, but Bones and her lab associates—who are known as ‘the squints’—add analysis from every angle of science imaginable, e.g. bones, stray particles, dirt found at the crime scene; they can determine the murder weapon from the hole it made in the skull! Even those of us whose eyes start to glaze over when they hear the scientific talk can appreciate how much they can determine from a skeleton.
We also realize the back and forth the writers are doing—getting closer and closer to Bones and Booth getting together, then pulling away—is annoying. Although most other shows do the same dance between lead characters, this particular waltz is especially frustrating. Perhaps it’s because it’s been a few seasons and still nothing has happened. Booth gave it a shot and he was rejected (yes, we were yelling at the TV at Bones). He says he’s moved on and he’s going to date… whoever she is, but she’s not right for you, Booth! While we still route for Booth and Bones, we’ve accepted the fact that Angela and Hodgins’ requited love will have to suffice until the writers get their act together.
So there are a few things on our mind in looking towards next season. I personally think we’re due for another serial killer like Gormogon or the Gravedigger. What will this
serial killer’s MO be? We don’t have the twisted mind of Saw’s writers so we don’t have any guesses. But there’s a pretty good chance Bones will get kidnapped again at some point in the season. We’ll probably meet a new intern, if not a couple more. Now that Angela and Hodgins are married, I’m sure there’ll be drama with them. And finally, as true fans of the love of Bones and Booth, we continue to hold out hope because we know it’s meant to be. Hopefully, next season there will be that episode that brings the two of them together. The best part is if it does happen we can watch over and over again courtesy of TNT and tell ourselves it was worth the wait.
